LAMARITE® Shake FAQ

WHAT IS LAMARITE MADE OF?
It is a colorized, mineral filled polymer.
DOES LAMARITE FADE?
All products exposed to the elements and the sun will experience some degree of fading.
IS THERE A SHADE VARIATION WITH LAMARITE?
Shade variation has been designed into the Lamarite shingles to provide a more realistic random appearance. Shade variation may occur differently from pallet to pallet. Because of this the applicator must take precautions to insure that the various shades of shingles are properly blended on the roof. Lamarite shingles are intended to have random shade variations when installed.
WHAT IS THE WIND WARRANTY ON LAMARITE?
Lamarite shingles are covered by a 60 month limited warranty against damage from wind up to 90 mph. This limited warranty applies only if the shingles are installed according to the instructions printed in the application installation guide. HAS LAMARITE BEEN TESTED FOR 110 MPH. WIND REQUIREMENTS?
Samples of Lamarite shingles were successfully tested for ASTM D3161 (modified to 110 mph.). See TAMKO's High Wind Instructions for details.
WHAT TYPE AND LENGTH OF FASTENER IS REQUIRED TO APPLY LAMARITE?
A corrosion resistant nail with a 3/8" head and a minimum length of 1 1/2". The nails can be hand driven or applied using a pneumatic nail gun set at 100 psi.
HOW DO YOU CUT LAMARITE? WHAT TOOLS ARE REQUIRED IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS?
Lamarite does not require any special tools to apply. Lamarite can be cut using a utility knife or a comparable tool by scoring the backside of the shingle and snapping it along the score line. Also, a circular saw with a carbide blade ( two teeth per inch) can be used.
WHO CAN APPLY THIS PRODUCT? DOES LAMARITE HAVE TO BE APPLIED BY APPROVED ROOFING CONTRACTORS?
We recommend that a professional roofing contractor apply the product. There is no approved roofing contractor program for Lamarite.
WHAT IS THE WARRANTY PERIOD ON LAMARITE?
Lamarite is covered by a fifty year Limited Warranty.
HAS LAMARITE BEEN TESTED FOR UL 2218 IMPACT RESISTANT?
Underwriters Laboratory performed impact testing on samples of Lamarite. As a result of that testing Lamarite® has the UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistance rating. Class 4 being the highest.
HOW MUCH DOES LAMARITE SHAKE WEIGH?
The approximate weight of Lamarite is 424 lbs. per square (12 inch width shingle).
WHAT IS THE SIZE OF A LAMARITE SHAKE?
There are three sizes of Shake Shingles. 5-inch, 7-inch and 12-inch width. All are 18 inches long.

WHAT COLORS ARE AVAILABLE?
Shake is available in two colors: Cedar and Weathered Wood
WHAT IS THE UL FIRE RATING OF LAMARITE?
For a UL Class A Fire Rating install Lamarite over either 1.) Moisture Guard Plus - TAMKO's fiberglass reinforced self-adhering SBS modified asphalt underlayment with fine mineral surfacing or 2.) TW Metal & Tile Underlayment- TAMKO's fiberglass reinforced self-adhering underlayment with polymeric film surfacing. For a UL Class C Fire rating install Lamarite® over either 1.) TAMKO No. 30 organic felt underlayment, 2.) No.30 UL organic felt underlayment, 3.) No.30 ASTM organic felt underlayment, or 4.) TAMKO Nail-Fast SBS modified organic utility underlayment.
CAN LAMARITE BE APPLIED OVER EXISTING ROOFING MATERIALS?
TAMKO does not recommend the application of Lamarite over existing roofing materials. Old roofing materials must be completely removed. Damaged roof decking, metal drip edges, and flashings must be repaired or replaced and irregularities removed to provide a smooth, flat surface for nailing.
