• What is Tam-Rail made of?

  Comprised of three strong layers, Tam-Rail's innovative core layer is made of a unique blend of wood and composite materials. The interior and outer layers are made of high-performance PVC.

• What makes Tam-Rail unique?

  Tam-Rail is manufactured with a state of the art, patented triple-layer technology that provides stiffness and rigidity all in a product that is light in weight. The outer layer, made from a durable capstock, provides not only a great look, but also added protection. It is designed for weather resistance. The middle layer is an innovative composite wood and foam core that is formulated for stiffness, providing excellent strength. The inner layer is formulated for impact resistance and provides a protective and sturdy base.

• What colors are available?

  Tam-Rail is available in three colors: White, Taupe, and Grey.

• Will Tam-Rail turn yellow?

  The outer layer contains high levels of titanium dioxide to help prevent ultraviolet degradation. 

• What code approvals does Tam-Rail meet?

  Tam-Rail has been evaluated at ATI Evaluation Service and awarded a Code Compliance Research Report # 0118. Tam-Rail meets the following building codes as noted in CCRR-0118:

  • 2006 and 2009 International Building Code (IBC)
  • 2006 and 2009 International Residential Code (IRC)
  • 2007 Florida Building Code – Building and Residential (excluding High Velocity Hurricane Zones)

• Can Tam-Rail be used on second and third story applications?

  Yes, Tam-Rail can be used on second and third story applications. Be sure to check with your local building code official for any rail height requirements.

• Is Tam-Rail hard to install?

  No, engineered with absolute user-friendliness in mind, the whole system is pre-routed for an easy snap together assembly. Following the recommended installation instructions should allow the expert contractor or do-it-yourselfer to complete the installation with ease. 

• How do I clean Tam-Rail?

  You can power wash it and use mild soap to remove dirt and stains. Thoroughly rinse with water after cleaning. Never use PVC cleaner, as that product is used to melt PVC for solvent welding.

• Does Tam-Rail come with a Limited Warranty?

  Yes, Tam-Rail comes with a 25-year Limited Warranty and a 5-year Full Start period. Please see the full Limited Warranty document for more details.

• Are there any special tools required for installation?

  No, with Tam-Rail you can use common tools.

• How do I know which stair rail kit is needed for my project?

  The Tam-Rail Application Instructions include a Rise/Run chart on the back to help you easily identify which stair rail kit to use. The chart can also be found on the outside of the Tam-Rail Stair Rail kit packaging for your convenience. Simply find the rise and run of your project and follow the chart.

• Can Tam-Rail be installed on concrete?

  Yes, a post mount concrete kit is available for concrete applications. However, the code approval is pending.
