Take an “outside” look at the 2007 Coastal Living Idea Cottage
TAMKO® products help bring the vision for this unique coastal getaway to life.
As homeowners continue to drive up the demand for home improvement products, industry professionals are finding creative new ways to keep them informed of the latest product innovations and design possibilities. One such example is the concept of an idea house, in which builders, designers and manufacturers showcase their capabilities within the context of a specific theme.
Coastal Living magazine endeavored to create an idea house based on this simple question: if you could design your own coastal getaway, what would it look like? The result is the 2007 Coastal Living Idea Cottage located in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Situated on the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway in Bon Secour Village, a 1,000-acre wooded community, the Idea Cottage is an homage to the casual, playful and carefree attitude of life on the coast.
TAMKO partnered with Coastal Living magazine to sponsor the 2007 Idea Cottage, and for good reason. TAMKO was able to offer products that provide a stunning natural beauty and a level of performance suitable for coastal regions.
Lamarite® tops the builder’s list
When deciding on a roofing material for the Idea Cottage, the builder chose
Lamarite Slate Composite Shingles by TAMKO for several reasons. The shingles create the natural beauty of slate in a product that is robust and enduring. According to residential designer Stephen Fuller, “the roofing has the look and feel of slate, but the value and weight are superior. You would need much more structure to hold up a real slate roof.”
What’s more, Lamarite shingles offer protection from the weather. The shingles are listed for U.L. Class A fire resistance, U.L. Standard 2218, Class 4 impact resistance, and come with a
50-year limited warranty. The shingles have also been tested to withstand winds up to 110 mph, which is an important consideration for coastal residents.
Outdoor spaces come alive.
Nothing invites homeowners to come out and play quite like the temperate climate and natural beauty of the coast. Since outdoor living is such a key aspect of coastal communities, choosing the right decking and railing products is another important decision.
For the 2007
Coastal Living Idea Cottage, the builder chose TAMKO’s
EverGrain® composite decking and the
Tam-Rail™ railing system—again based on the products’ natural beauty and low maintenance performance. EverGrain is a compression molded composite product that creates deep grain, lasting beauty and is low maintenance.
The Tam-Rail railing system is TAMKO’s patented triple-layer system offering incredible performance and protection. The Tam-Rail system is designed for weather resistance and is offered with a
25-year limited warranty. Its signature white beauty also provided the perfect complement to the warm aesthetic look that the home’s designer wanted to create.
The 2007 Coastal Living Idea Cottage is a shining example of inspired living spaces. Whether you live on the coast or in the heartland, choosing products that add years of natural beauty and low maintenance performance will enhance the enjoyment of your home as well.
