856 Premium SBS Adhesive
A proprietary formulation consisting of select roofer's flux asphalt, prime quick-setting VOC-compliant petroleum solvents, reinforcing minifibers and styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) rubberized polymers blended to a brush-/squeegee-grade consistency.
Loading...
- Excellent bonding strength over a wide temperature range
- SBS-modified bitumen roofing system is allowed to expand and contract equally
- 100% ASBESTOS FREE
- Used to adhere SBS-modified bitumen membranes to the substrate, typically a coated fiberglass base sheet
- The substrate to receive the adhesive must be smooth. Irregularities may cause voids, thus inhibiting proper bonding.
- Apply with a stiff-bristle brush or, preferably, a notched squeegee
- 1.5 gallons per 100 square feet
- As in all roofing systems, proper membrane lap construction is critical. It is essential the laps receive the proper amount of adhesive and a slightly thicker application rate in these areas is acceptable
- Ensure the adhesive is visible at all completed lap edges and ends. Once laps are adhered, gently roll or press the laps to ensure good bonding. CAUTION: Too much pressure on the roller may force adhesive out and cause premature system failure. Alternately, lap seaming by hot-air welding may be acceptable; consult the membrane manufacturer
- In addition to adhesive, backnailing is required of the SBS-modified bitumen membrane on steep roof slopes. Some SBS membrane manufacturers may require backnailing at lower slopes. Check membrane manufacturer's application recommendations.
- DO NOT HEAT! DO NOT THIN.
- Excessive foot traffic on recently applied systems may cause voids, poor bonding or premature system failure.
- Excessive adhesive application (greater than 1.50 gallons per 100 sq. ft.) may cause membrane blisters, slippage and/or granule loss.
- Application at 50°F or less inhibits drying time and may inhibit proper bonding.
- NOT FOR USE with APP (atactic polypropylene) or membranes that have a plastic or polyethylene backing.
Applicable standards
ASTM D 3019, Type III. CGSB 37-GP-56M, UL Classified,
ASTM D 3019 requires minimum bond strength of 4.25 lb./in. after 24 hours.
Additional certification
37-GP-56M is the CGSB (Canadian General Standards Board) "Standard for: membrane, Modified, Bituminous, Prefabricated, and Reinforced for Roofing" that sets minimum Lap Joint Strength at 8.2 lb./in.
