The TAMKO® Building Products Communications Department is focused on providing members of the media with the resources, materials and information they need. The Communications Department works daily with members of the local and national media on stories that highlight the nation's building materials industry.
NOTE TO EDITORS: The correct capitalization of the company name is TAMKO, due to the fact that it is an acronym. The letters stand for Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma – the company’s original trade area when founded in 1944. TAMKO’s trade area is now all 50 states and a number of foreign countries.

Repairs Moving Quickly - Shipments Resume at Tuscaloosa Plant

Wednesday, Tim Whelan, Kent Blanchard and I visited our TAMKO colleagues at the plant in Tuscaloosa. Their positive attitudes, detailed organization, and progress in getting the plant back up-and-running is truly inspirational.
The leadership team at Tuscaloosa has responded to these challenges like a disciplined military operation. I sincerely hope we never experience anything like this again but we will develop a “best practices” template from the task force coordinated approach of Tuscaloosa and TAMKO corporate teams.
Nearly 300 people were on site Wednesday as part of the recovery effort: TAMKO Tuscaloosa employees, 14 employees from TAMKO’s Engineering and Construction division, contractors from numerous organizations including Crossland Construction, Cornerstone Engineering, GGG, and several corporate employees.
Members of the TAMKO Sales Team and Tuscaloosa employees, worked tirelessly to sort inventory so that completely undamaged products can be shipped to customers immediately. Over the last four days, we have resumed shipping shingles to customers from inventory.
Mid-June remains the target for producing shingles again in Tuscaloosa. As I indicated last week, we are working 24x7 to have the lines running even sooner.
I know that many employees at locations across the company are part of the effort to meet the needs of our customers generated by the storms across the country. Thanks to all of you who have risen to meet these challenges and will continue to do so.
